Fascinating and captivating
A Woman's Journey West is a must read! Nan Weber's unique approach of re-creating the life of a pioneer woman and her family is entertaining, educational and interesting. This is a well written book! I am looking forward to more works from this talented author!

The mystery of Mattie solved.
Great research and writing brings Mattie Culver to life. Nan Weber shows that even though Mattie Culver died in 1889, she still reach out and touch us today.

Career versus romance!
Really related to this heroine and her struggles to choose between her photographer career and freedom and ride off into the sunset with a handsome drover. His open personality and simple ways sneak past her defenses and force her to consider giving up all she came West to find. It's a fight between her will and God's as she faces a number of enemies too. The ending was right, but want more in this series!

Great humourous dialogue between all the characters.
This book is full of hilarious dialogue, real life experiences of people assuming things before they happen and a great love story where the boy does not get the girl. A fun read, but most important is the dialogue between the main character and God. Thanks, Mr. Bly, for a great book and one that does not end in the normal way.

Best Ever!
This is one of the finest photographic books ever irregardless of it being a state book. The compositions are fantastic and varied.

The book is destined to become a classic and Mr. Vasapolli a place amongst the finest photographers ever!

Best ever!
I love Montana and I own almost every book on Montana. This one in particular is destined to be a classic amongst photographic essays. The compositions are varied in itself and each a fantastic journey of Montana cities and wildernesses. Not a weak one in the whole lot- except the ugly bighorn sheep shedding it's winter coat- the sheep is ugly, but the surroundings are still beautiful.

It's a book bound for several editions and Mr. Vasapolli a place along side the photographic greats of all time.

The Montana Angling Guide (2nd Edition)
Published in Paperback by Stream Stalker (15 May, 2002)
Authors: Chuck Fothergill and Bob Sterling
Average review score:

A classic angling guide that still works today
I first read the Montana Angling guide in 1989, before my first trip to Montana. I was pleasantly surprised by the maps and fly suggestions. Once I got on the water, I appreciated the accuracy of the Guide. After all those years, I can still use it to select streams to fish with total confidence. For the most part, the only thing that has changed is the explosion of anglers all over the west (and probably all over the US). Some streams, such as the Blackfoot River system, have improved due to more enlightened conservation techniques. Probably the list of stores, fly shops, and motels need to be updated. But when I return to Montana, I always take along the Guide and the Geological Survey map of Yellowstone Park. Now I don't go to some streams due to crowds. Others are just as good as they were when I first went there. Hint1: Very few anglers hike off the road more than 100 yards. This leaves lots of territory for the rest of us. Hint2: We always know there will be quality, uncrowded fishing when the trailhead sign warns of bears being sighted within one mile. This sign apparently frightens away many hikers.
While I haven't read hundreds of angling guides, today I still would refer to the Guide's stream maps as my first resource, and I wouldn't look for anything better.

Montana Angling Guide - Super information for fly fishing
If you have wondered about the day when you could afford to go to the "Big Sky Country" and catch trout like a pro, this book is a MUST. It tells you how to get there, the access points, and everything you need to really enjoy your trip to Montana fly fishing. It is well written and simply MUST be a part of your fishing gear when you get to Montana. Wheather you are new to fly fishing in Montana, or an old hand, the wealth of information and readable style makes the book worth twice the price. I would hope that fishing guides would recommend this to their clients before they come to Montata.

As you can see, I am very enthusiastic about a well written worthwhile trout fishing guide.

Hope you will agree !

A True Montana Treasure
While working as a Costco employee, we received a shipment of these books and arranged for the late Mr. Malone to come in to our Bozeman store and sign copies for the customers.

Early the next morning, while stocking the books and getting everything organized, I was approached by my manager who notified me that the signing would not be taking place because Mr. Malone had died of, what appeared to be, a heart attack.

This is a true Montana book, filled with gorgeous pictures of what truly is - "The Last Best Place." I found the writing to be very informative, yet easy to lose myself in.

For those of you who already own this book, you know how great it is. You realize how lucky you are to live in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. And you understand the history Montana holds. If you don't have this book and you are from Montana, pick it up...you won't be disappointed.

Lets not forget Mr. Michael Malone. Although his life was cut tragically short, he was able to share with us his lifelong work. And it is amazing.

Big Book on the Big Sky
I am usually allergic to coffee table books. This one is different: edited by historian and president of Montana State University, Bozeman (died December, 1999)Michael Malone, this book includes essays by David Quammen and Mary Clearman Blew on the wildlife and the arts respectively. The other essays, covering a wide range of subjects are written by other knowledgable professionals.

The photographs and captions are equally enticing and informative. The full page photograph of artist, Bob DeWeese, and his Gangster Tie is almost worth the price of the book to me.

I found one minor mistake: the 1937 flood in Billings was the result of a break in an irrigation ditch, not the overflow of the Yellowstone River. I know of no better book for getting a feel for this part of the world, nor is that Chamber of Commerce puffery: in 1910 there were about 2,000 African Americans in all of Montana. In 1999 there were about the same number (from the essay on ethnic groups). The reasons for that are clear, and shameful.

Whether you are a Montanan or not, if you want to know more about the state this is a worthy addition to your library.

And then to run into a blizzard? More complications coming up.
Dr. John Mitchel wants Miranda to marry Lewis Nelson. Hah!
Miranda and Bear McAllister take off for Pine Bluff Pass but run into trouble with the name of Lewis. All that snow sure made it sound cold.

Great story you will really enjoy -- pick it up if you don't already have it. Highly Recommended --M

Very enjoyable
Miranda meets Trey when she notices that he is having trouble getting his niece Josie to board the train is to board also. Josie's parents killed in a train accident left Josie with Trey, the young bachelor doctor from Montana. Miranda is boarding to escape her father and a man (Lewis) who her father wants her to marry. She is an heiress and knows Lewis wants her for the money. After a blizzard, the train stops in Montana, Trey's home. While attracted to each other, Miranda does not trust men and is more concerned with finding a way to get moving on the train, to get further away from the two men she is fleeing. This is a story of a doctor who learns she is an heiress and doesn't feel she would ever consider life with a small town doctor and she is a woman who feels men would only want her for her money. I enjoyed it thoroughly and think others will too.

Montana Mavericks: Big Sky Brides (Silhouette Promo)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (March, 1900)
Authors: Christine Rimmer, Jennifer Greene, Cheryl St. John, and Cheryl St John
Average review score:

Big Sky Brides-Big Time Reading
I thought this was an excellant book. All 3 stories were well written. The connection to the community of Whitehorn was minimal, especially compared to other books in the Montana Mavericks series. At the same time these 3 stories stand on their own. They don't need the background of previous books in the series. If I had any complaint about the books was that the stories were too short. I like the characters of Suzanna, Diana, & Isabelle and wanted to read more about them.

A great new series by three of romances most beloved authors
I loved this new Silhouette anthology. Christine Rimmer and Jennifer Greene's stories are both contemps about two sisters, Suzanna and Diana.

Suzanna's wedding day had one small snag . . . no groom. She eases her aching heart with one wild night fling with a cowboy. A few months later it becomes obvious she's carrying his baby and Suzanna finds herself married to a stranger, a stranger she's falling in love with.

Diana's come home to Montana, and falls in love with a little girl, a little girl who just so happens to be the daughter of Diana's first love. When Trey asks her to marry him is it just for his daughter's sake, or could there be another, deeper reason?

Cheryl St. John's contribution, ISABELLE, is a historical that introduces Diana and Suzanna's great-great-grandmother. After her father's death, Isabelle returns to the Big Sky Ranch, determined to build a life for herself. But the ranch is in debt and there's only one option Isabelle can find -- marry Kyle Running Horse Brennan. Can a marriage that begins for practical reasons turn into something more . . . can it turn into a life-long love that will set the standards for generations of Big Sky Brides?

The three stories are a good fit, and a fantastic read! I'm looking foward to reading the rest of the Montana Mavericks series!
